Anusara Immersions & Teacher Training 2012

Anusara Immersion and Teacher Training Program:

Shri Yoga and certified Anusara teacher Julie Smerdon are pleased to offer a Yoga Alliance registered 200-hour Teacher Training in Brisbane in 2012. Fully inclusive, this is the perfect way to deepen your practice, or prepare to teach yoga of all genres.

This training consists of two segments:  Immersion modules I, II & III (100+ contact hours), and also our 100 hour Teacher Training.  The Immersion Series is a prerequisite for the Teacher Training.  Completion of  all 200 hours will qualify you for registration with Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level.

Immersions I, II & III

The Immersion series invites you to deepen your practice through focused study of the joyful philosophy of Anusara Yoga, deep exploration of the Universal Principles of Alignment, and a supportive community of like-minded yogis.  This program is always a rich and transformational experience, an exciting journey of body/mind/spirit, and a place where long lasting friendships are forged. The Immersion Series offers practitioners of all levels an exciting journey into the core of the teachings of Anusara Yoga.  Whether you want to deepen your practice, connect with other yogis, or take the first step toward teaching Anusara Yoga, the Immersion Series will expand your Yoga practice and reconnect you with your native joy.  The Immersion curriculum consists of three modules totaling 108 hours of study.  For teachers or students who would like to teach, this is the perfect opportunity to create a solid foundation from which to share Yoga of all genres. Although the Immersion modules do not give instruction on how to teach Yoga, the Immersion series is the first step for those wishing ot embark on the path of teaching Anusara Yoga, as well as a prerequisite for Anusara Yoga Teacher Training.  Each individual module will take place over 5 days.

  • Module I:  7-11 March
  • Module II:  9-13  May
  • Module III:  4-8 July

Immersion Curriculum:

Part One (7-11 March)

Exploration of Anusara Yoga’s Universal Principles of Alignment | Introduction to poses from Anusara’s level I syllabus | History of Yoga, basic overview of Anusara Yoga philosophy including:  studentship, fundamentals of practice and ethical precepts | Basic pranayama and meditation | Introduction of general skeletal and muscular anatomy, including anatomy of the breath.

Prerequisites for Immersion I:  30 hours or 3 months of Anusara Yoga classes with an Anusara certified or Inspired teacher, OR permission from the instructor.

Part Two (9-13 May)

Graduates of any Immersion I module are eligible to move forward into deeper levels of refinement in Module II, which will include: Review of the Universal Principles of Alignment, and deepening exploration of the more subtle aspects of alignment including Loops & Spirals and the 3 A’s | Continued asana practice from the level I syllabus and an introduction to sequencing | Deeper exploration of Anusara Philosophy including the Tattvas, the 5 Elements and Studentship | Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras – Classical and Tantric views of significant verses | Basic kinesiology | Deepening study and practice of pranayama and meditation

Part Three (4-8 July)

Graduates of Modules 1 and 2 are eligibile for Module 3 which will include: Review and continued exploration of the Universal Principles of Alignment and philosophy of Anusara Yoga | Continued asana practice from the level 1 & 2 syllabi and an introduction to poses from the level 3 syllabus | The Bhagavad Gita – Integration of the paths of Yoga | Subtle body anatomy | Continued work with pranayama and meditation | Continued study of anatomy and kinesiology.

Cost for Immersion Modules:

  • Full series: $1800 before 15 February (or $1950 after)
  • Individual Immersion Modules: $700 before 22 Feb for Immersion 1, 25 April for Immersion 2 and 20 June for Immersion 3 (or $750 after)

Anusara Yoga Teacher Training

The Shri  Yoga Teacher Training is a 100 hour program designed for those who desire to teach Anusara Yoga; and also for those already teaching Yoga of any genre who wish to deepen their level of refinement.  This training is designed to develop skill in the main aspects of the Anusara Yoga teaching method including:

  • The art of Themes, Languaging &  Sequencing
  • The art of teaching the Universal Principles of Alignment
  • Sharpening Observation Skills
  • Teaching to multi-level classes
  • Therapeutics and Physical Adjustments
  • Designing Curriculum
  • Instructing the breath
  • Giving clear pose demonstrations
  • Direct teaching practice with partners, as well as in groups
Building community with other teachers and giving and receiving feedback is a key feature of this program, which will help you  to build confidence in your teaching and empower you to step into your fullness as a both a teacher and a person.

  • Part I:  18-22 July, 2012
  • Part II:  12-16 September, 2012

COST:  $1800 before 1 June, 2012  (or $1950 after)

Prerequisites for Teacher Training:

  • Completion of Immersion Modules I, II & III
  • At least two years asana practice
  • Completion of application form

Refund Policy for Immersions and Teacher Training: Once payment has been made, full refunds will be given up to 7 days prior to the start of the Immersion if your spot can be filled.  No refunds inside 7 days prior to the beginning of the module.  Credit for future events will be considered in lieu of refunds.
